The Department of Electronic Systems at Aalborg University is hiring a postdoc in resilient satellite networks with classical and quantum communications. The position runs for 24 months from 1 February 2027, or as soon as possible after that.

The role

You will develop techniques to model integrated satellite and terrestrial networks as dynamic graphs, based on the spatial characteristics, orbital dynamics and timing requirements of the system. The work includes:

  • feature extraction and graph representation learning, and solving link establishment, matching and routing problems with classical graph theory and AI methods such as graph neural networks (GNNs);
  • distribution-free reliability guarantees, using conformal prediction to give calibrated, finite-sample guarantees on link performance and on the fidelity of entanglement distributed over satellite and terrestrial links;
  • modelling the spatial and temporal aspects of the systems and of disruptions, to evaluate and improve the network’s resilience to failures statistically;
  • decentralized algorithms that adapt network operation to a target resilience with minimal performance loss.

The postdoc sits in the Satellites and Space Communications group and the CLASSIQUE Center of Excellence, on the STATSAT project (funded by Villum Fonden) and CLASSIQUE (funded by the Danish National Research Foundation).

Requirements

  • A completed PhD in electrical engineering, telecommunications, statistics, information theory, applied mathematics, data science or a closely related field.
  • Experience with information- and communication-theoretic modelling, programming, probability, statistics and AI, and comfort with abstract concepts in information theory, graph theory and statistics.
  • Documented publications in recognised international journals and conferences.
  • English at C1 level or above, for scientific writing and daily collaboration.
  • Knowledge of satellite networks and quantum communications is beneficial but not required.

The application consists of a cover letter, CV, master’s and PhD diplomas, a publication list (up to five attached publications), teaching documentation if relevant, dissemination qualifications and references. The process includes shortlisting and may include a risk assessment of new hires.

About the employer

The Department of Electronic Systems has more than 200 employees, about 90 of them PhD students, and about 40% of staff are international. It works on communication, networks, control systems, AI, sound, cyber security and robotics. The university has a parallel-language policy and offers Danish courses as part of the employment.

Salary and deadline

The ad gives no salary figure. Pay and terms follow the AC collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state; the postdoc level is in the university’s salary overview linked from the ad. Deadline: 16 November 2026, through the university’s recruitment system.
