The Department of Accounting at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is hiring a PhD student to research accounting and artificial intelligence in one of three areas: financial accounting, management accounting and control, or auditing.

The role

  • A three-year PhD programme supervised by CBS associate professors and professors, with PhD courses alongside.
  • Expect to attend international conferences and spend time at another institution as a visiting PhD student.
  • Teaching obligations of 416 work hours over the three years.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree (the Bologna 3+2 model), completed before the programme starts.
  • A grade of at least 10 for the master’s thesis on the Danish 7-point scale, or equivalent.
  • A weighted grade average of at least 8.2 over bachelor’s and master’s combined, or at least 9.5 for the master’s alone. If not met, proof of a top-40% class ranking is accepted; the ad says the grade requirement is waived only in rare cases.
  • A high level of written and spoken English.
  • A five-page project description (research question, initial framework and method, proposed empirical material, three-year work plan), plus diplomas and transcripts, a CV, a publication list if applicable and one written work such as the master’s thesis.

About the employer

CBS is an international business school in Frederiksberg with about 20,000 students and 200 PhD students. The Department of Accounting is one of the oldest and largest in Europe and covers both the private and the public sector. The ad suggests contacting the head of department or the PhD coordinator before sending a proposal.

Salary and deadline

  • A fully salaried three-year scholarship under the Danish national collective agreement: about DKK 30,264 to 36,877 a month depending on seniority, plus 18.07% pension. It covers tuition, office space, courses and travel under CBS rules.
  • The ad gives no start date.
  • Deadline: 11 November 2026. CBS must receive all material and appendices by then; apply through the online link on the page.
