AMASE is a two-year Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (four semesters, double degree) in advanced materials science and engineering, taught at two of six European universities. Luleå University of Technology (LTU, Sweden) is one of them. Applicants from third countries (outside the EU and associated countries; the page puts “the rest of the countries” in this group) and from the EU are both considered for full or partial scholarships. Note: anyone who has lived, studied, worked or trained in an EU or programme country for more than 12 months in total over the last 5 years (counted back from the application deadline) must apply as a Programme Country (EU) applicant, whatever their nationality. If you choose LTU as your entrance university (year one), the deadline is 15 January 2027.
The role
Full Erasmus Mundus scholarship: a monthly allowance of 1 400 EUR for 24 months (33 600 EUR), participation costs for four semesters paid directly to the coordinator, and basic health insurance cover in the EU. It gives no extra money for visa, accommodation or travel. The allowance is not paid for study periods spent in the holder’s country of origin or residence (or the country of their last degree); a holder whose entrance or second university is in that country must study at least one semester in another consortium country. Anyone who previously held an EMJM scholarship is not eligible for another.

Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent (at least three years) in materials science and engineering, physics, chemistry or a related materials or engineering field. Final-year students can apply with a statement of enrolment and the expected graduation date.
- CV and statement of purpose (one page each, in English, PDF), a valid passport scan, language certificates and two recommendation letters in English.
- For LTU: English at B2. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no part below 5.5; TOEFL iBT taken up to 20 January 2026: 90 (writing 20), taken from 21 January 2026: 4.5; Cambridge CAE or CPE passed; PTE Academic 62 (writing 61). AMASE is run by the European School of Materials (EUSMAT) at Saarland University, Germany, with UdS (Germany), LTU (Sweden), UL (France), UPC (Spain), MUL (Austria) and UNIPD (Italy). The programme home page says applications for 2027/28 are open, while the deadlines and fees pages still say the period “will open in October 2026”.
Salary and deadline
Deadline for Erasmus Mundus scholarship consideration (EU and non-EU candidates): 15 January 2027 if you choose LTU as entrance university; 15 February 2027 if you choose UPC, UdS, UL, MUL or UNIPD. After those dates the application is no longer considered for scholarships but can still go ahead as self-financed (non-EU applicants by 31 March 2027): participation costs are 4 500 EUR per semester for non-EU students and 1 500 EUR for EU students. No salary is stated.
