Webinar No. 2, titled “The Journey to Conquering a Ph.D in Denmark in 2023,” organized by the Association of Vietnamese Professionals and Intellectuals in Denmark (AVIDE), will provide Vietnamese students with methods and experiences for applying to Ph.D programs and scholarships in Denmark. The guest speakers – individuals who have successfully applied to Ph.D programs at Danish universities – will also share the challenges they encountered during the application process, as well as useful advice for successfully securing a study program and scholarship.

Target Audience: All parents, high school students, and university students interested in Ph.D programs and scholarships in Denmark.

Information about the Speakers:
1. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien,
Vice President, AVIDE
Director of Medical Network, AVSE Global
Senior Specialist in Biomedicine at Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics from the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) in 2002. She received a Master’s scholarship (2003 – 2005) in South Korea and earned her Ph.D. (2008 – 2012) from Aalborg University, Denmark. Currently, she works as a Senior Clinical Scientist/Senior Specialist in Biomedical Science at the Department of Molecular Diagnostics, Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark.
Dr. Hien’s research expertise lies in clinical research and complex microbial systems. She is one of Northern Denmark’s experts in metabolomics research based on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) technology and the development of diagnostic biomarkers across various medical studies, including viral hepatitis, liver cancer, endometrial cancer, Covid-19, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, healthy subjects; and microbial profiling. She has participated in numerous projects in both medical research and microbial biotechnology. She is a dedicated and committed scientist and lecturer with international collaboration experience and an enthusiastic, effective mentor passionate about solving challenging problems in medical and biological sciences.
Dr. Hien is a member of the Editorial Board of the Vietnam Journal of Biotechnology; a member of the executive committee of the Association of Vietnamese People in Europe; Vice President of the Association of Vietnamese Professionals and Intellectuals in Denmark (AVIDE); and an advisor to Lead the Talent, Denmark.
Dr. Hien joined the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts Global (AVSE Global) in March 2021 as the director of the Taskforce Beyond Covid-19 project. Currently, Dr. Hien serves as the director of the Health Network for the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts Global, AVSE Global, France.
2. Nguyen Phuoc Lap
Vice President, AVIDE
Ph.D. Candidate in Biomedicine at the University of Copenhagen
After graduating as valedictorian of the Biotechnology program at Can Tho University, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Lap received a full Master’s scholarship in Biomedicine at Hallym University (South Korea). Subsequently, Mr. Lap worked for three years as a Research Officer at Jeonbuk National University (South Korea). Currently, Mr. Lap is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedicine at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and serves as Vice President of the Association of Vietnamese Professionals and Intellectuals in Denmark (AVIDE).
His research focuses on cell cycle control, DNA damage repair response, and cancer cell metastasis. Additionally, Mr. Lap has research experience in the life cycle and infection of Hepatitis C virus (HCV), the progression of liver cancer, as well as research on inhibitors for Hepatitis C virus and SARS-CoV-2 virus.
3. Bui Van Phuc
Ph.D. Candidate in Electronics and Telecommunications at Aalborg University
Mr. Bui Van Phuc graduated as valedictorian of the Electronics and Telecommunications program at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (2013-2018).
He received a Master’s scholarship to study in South Korea (2018-2020), participated in a research assistant program in Luxembourg (2021-2022), and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. program at Aalborg University, Denmark. He worked at Viettel (2021) and interned at SES Corporation, Luxembourg, during his research assistantship in Luxembourg.
Mr. Phuc’s research expertise focuses on optimization techniques and the application of artificial intelligence in wireless communications to improve transmission efficiency between wireless devices such as phones, satellites, and IoT devices.
Throughout the Webinar, attendees will have the opportunity to interact and ask questions directly to the program’s speakers.
