The Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is hiring a tenure track assistant professor, starting 1 May 2027 or as soon as possible. The post studies how infectious disease spreads in health systems when environments, animal populations and production systems change.

The role

  • Lead independent research on the dynamics of infectious disease spread, combining epidemiology, mathematical and statistical modelling, data science and economic analysis.
  • Build, calibrate and validate disease-spread models on large national datasets, including parameter estimation and indicators such as the basic reproduction number (R₀).
  • Work with stakeholders such as the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, SEGES, Landbrug & Fødevarer and FAO.
  • Secure external research funding and lead projects within the TIPTON Research Group.
  • Teach One Health, sustainability and data science, supervise students and contribute to the department’s research-based advice.

Requirements

  • A PhD or equivalent in the subject area and research experience in the field.
  • Strong programming, notably in R, and experience handling large and complex datasets.
  • Experience developing epidemiological disease-spread models across animal species and production systems.
  • Internationally competitive research or high potential; demonstrated experience in securing external funding, and the ambition to turn research ideas into externally funded projects.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. The application must be in English.

About the employer

The department belongs to the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen; the research group leader is Professor Beate Conrady.

Salary and deadline

  • The position is permanent. After at most six years, and with a positive final appraisal, the appointee becomes associate professor.
  • Full time, 37 hours a week. Pay follows the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC, with negotiable supplements; the ad gives no amount.
  • Deadline: 18 November 2026, 23:59 CET. Send a cover letter (max 2 pages), CV, diplomas, publication list, research plan (2 to 4 pages), a teaching plan (mandatory; upload a blank document if you have none) and up to 5 publications. Interviews are likely on 7 April 2027.
