State Visit by the Leader of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Kingdom of Denmark

At the invitation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam and his spouse, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, will undertake a State Visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026.

Vietnam and Denmark share a long-standing friendship, established in 1971, when Denmark became one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

Bilateral relations have continued to strengthen significantly in recent years. In 2013, the two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership, laying an important foundation for cooperation across various sectors. By 2023, Vietnam and Denmark further elevated their relationship by establishing a Green Strategic Partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting sustainable growth, green transition, and climate change response.

Cooperation between the two countries is currently extensive, implemented through government-level cooperation programs in various fields such as energy, food, education, health, and statistics. Concurrently, the Danish business community is playing an increasingly active role in Vietnam’s rapidly developing economy.

The year 2026 marks 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark. This State Visit not only commemorates the historical journey of bilateral relations but also demonstrates the two countries’ determination to further deepen cooperation in the future.

The relationship between Vietnam and Denmark is further strengthened by close people-to-people connections and increasingly developing trade relations. Currently, over 18,200 Danish citizens of Vietnamese origin reside in Denmark, while approximately 150 Danish companies operate in Vietnam.

The Danish Royal Family also has a special connection to Vietnam. His Royal Highness Prince Henrik spent part of his childhood living in Hanoi. In 2022, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark, then Crown Prince and Crown Princess, made their most recent official visit to Vietnam.

During the visit, both sides are expected to focus discussions on areas of common interest, particularly green solutions, health, and food, as well as strengthening cooperation on regional and international issues. The visit also serves as an opportunity to reaffirm the significant economic and trade benefits between Vietnam and Denmark.

On Monday, October 19, 2026, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark will host a State Banquet at Christiansborg Palace to welcome General Secretary, President To Lam and his spouse, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly.

The Vietnamese delegation for the visit is expected to include several ministers, high-ranking officials, and a business delegation, thereby opening up further opportunities to promote political, economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The official program and press program for the visit will be announced at the appropriate time. Press accreditation will be handled through the International Press Centre.
