The Research Council of Finland (formerly the Academy of Finland) has opened the 2027 Academy Research Fellowship call, a four-year grant for postdoctoral researchers across all scientific fields to carry out a research project at a host organisation in Finland.
The fellowship
- Funds an independent research project for four years, from 1 September 2027 to 31 August 2031
- Maximum funding of EUR 700,000, covering the Academy Research Fellow’s salary, research team salaries, project costs, travel and international cooperation/mobility
- Co-funded: the Research Council of Finland provides up to 70%, with the Finnish host organisation contributing at least 30%
Requirements
- First doctoral degree obtained between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2024 (roughly 2-7 years post-PhD)
- Does not already hold a permanent senior position (professor, associate professor, research director or equivalent)
- The project must be carried out mainly in Finland, hosted and co-funded by a Finnish research organisation; the call text does not exclude non-Finnish applicants but stresses a “close connection to Finland” to run a multi-year project, so applicants should secure a hosting Finnish institution before applying
