The Stagkourakis Lab at the Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet (KI), together with SciLifeLab in Stockholm, is recruiting a PhD student in computational neuroscience to study the neural dynamics underlying survival behaviors.
The role
The PhD student will analyze and model large-scale neural population recordings acquired during naturalistic behaviors in freely moving animals, integrating graph-theoretic, dynamical-systems and machine-learning approaches to understand how distributed neural ensembles encode internal states and drive survival behaviors.
Requirements
- Degree in computational neuroscience, physics, applied mathematics, computer science, bioengineering or a related field
- Strong programming and data-analysis skills (Python, MATLAB or Julia)
- Experience with large-scale data analysis, signal processing or statistical modeling
- English proficiency equivalent to Swedish upper-secondary English course B/6
About the employer
Karolinska Institutet (KI) is one of the world’s leading biomedical research institutions, based in Stockholm. The position is affiliated with SciLifeLab, Sweden’s national life-science center and a strong interdisciplinary environment for large-scale data.
Salary and deadline
The PhD student is employed on a doctoral studentship with a contractual monthly salary (no figure stated in the ad), for up to 4 years full-time, with free gym access and medical-care reimbursements. The start date is flexible within 2026. The application deadline is 30 October 2026. Reference number: STÖD 2-4733/2025.
