Who Can Use MF4
You can use the digital MF4 to apply for a residence permit as an accompanying family member to a person who has been granted permanent residence in connection with work or study.
MF4 is used to apply for an extension for accompanying family members in cases where the sponsor or the person who has been granted permanent residence continues to meet the conditions for extending the residence permit they held when granted permanent residence, or if that person has a job that qualifies for a residence permit under one of the applicable work schemes.
You can also use MF4 to apply for an extension of your current residence permit as an accompanying family member when the sponsor has been granted permanent residence or Danish citizenship based on work or study.
Online Application and Deadlines
From September 14, 2026, you can complete and submit the digital MF4 application on newtodenmark.dk.
The digital MF4 provides access to a platform where you can log in and view all pending applications and applications you have completed within 30 days of submission.
For a certain period, it will still be possible to submit a printed MF4 form in person or via a contact form. However, from October 14, 2026, you must use the digital MF4.
If you submit an application using a printed MF4 form after October 14, 2026, SIRI will, in principle, reject the application (except for cases not detailed within the ‘in principle’ concept).
Changes to Forms MF1 and MF2
From October 14, 2026, you will no longer be able to use forms MF1 and MF2 to apply for a residence permit as an accompanying family member for a person who has been granted permanent residence or Danish citizenship based on work or study. Instead, you must use the digital MF4 from October 14, 2026.
